Operation Crap Removal

I’m in dire need of an “organization specialist.” There is too much CRAP in my house. The bookshelves in my office are filled with empty picture frames, stuffed animals, photo albums (some empty, some not)….I’ve ordered the carpet for Operation Princess Room and decided to go ahead and put the same in my office as well. But in order for the Home Depot guys to put in the carpet, I have to not only clear out the rooms, but also the closets. Oh the closets! My office closet still has some of Jamie’s crap in it. It is stuffed to the brim people: an old printer, Jamie’s coats, a random set of sheets, and who knows what else. Sophie’s closet has my old “skinny” clothes and a bunch of other…you guessed it: crap. I just don’t know what to do with this stuff or where to put it (Note to self: Throw some of it away; give it away). I can’t very well say “Oh I’ll just throw it in the basement” because my basement is also full of yes, CRAP. Garage? Same story. I need a major clean up but I get too easily overwhelmed by such projects. I look at it all and I can’t see straight and immediately start having a panic attack (for real).

But no more excuses! The carpet is on order, and won’t get here for a few weeks, so I have time. Though if you want to help, PLEASE come over and I will feed you beer and pizza. We can take a baseball bat to the 1990s printer like they do in Office Space. Help a friend and free therapy in one, what could be better?

  3. Take it all to Goodwill. Parting with crap is wonderful...I need to take more of my own advice though...anyone need one wedding dress, worn once, printer, scanner, older 4mp digital camera, two pairs of ice skates, pot hanging rack for kitchen, and lots and lots of paper?

My actual advice is to do only one closet at a time - helps it not get too overwhelming and makes it more likely you'll junk it all since it won't seem like so much.

How's President's day weekend look for help? You'll probably have the carpet already, but...

  4. Pizza and beer sounds very tempting. But, alas, I cannot partake in the golden nectar while pregnant. It seems like getting organized is a never-ending task, doesn't it? Maybe that’s because I can’t seem to stay organized. Ordering that carpet is a wonderful motivator. Although it might not seem like it, it is good to have a deadline. It keeps you focused. Mine is a bit further out - the baby’s coming in a little over 2 months. I am hoping to have slightly less crap by then. Good luck with your crap removal as well!
